There’s a certain calm that comes from standing barefoot on cool grass in the morning, or on wet sand as the tide draws back. It feels good — and it turns out there may be more to that feeling than we once thought.
Earthing, sometimes called grounding, is the simple practice of reconnecting your body to the earth beneath your feet. When we walk barefoot outdoors, or rest indoors on a conductive Earthing mat or sheet, our body makes contact with the earth’s gentle natural energy — the same energy that has been beneath us all along.
You might think of it as vitamin G — G for ground. For much of human history, we lived in near-constant contact with the earth: barefoot, on the soil, on leather and natural fibres. These days, rubber soles and raised floors keep us a step removed from it. Earthing is simply about closing that gap again.
You can’t see the earth’s energy, but many people say they can feel it — a soft warmth or gentle tingle underfoot on a dewy lawn or at the water’s edge. Others notice it more quietly over time: settling more easily into sleep, feeling calmer, moving through the day with a little more ease.
However it shows up for you, the idea at the heart of Earthing is a beautifully simple one — that reconnecting with the earth is one of the most natural things we can do for our sense of wellbeing.
New to Earthing? Our bedding, mats and bands make it easy to bring that connection indoors, wherever you sit or sleep.
