Your Earthing Sleep Mat or Mattress Cover works through gentle skin contact — so a little thought about your bedding and sleepwear goes a long way. Here are our simple tips for a good connection through the seasons.
In summer
Keep it light and natural. Choose sheets and sleepwear that are a good percentage of cotton or bamboo rather than polyester. A thin cotton sheet over your Sleep Mat or Mattress Cover is ideal, and wearing minimal clothing on your lower half means more bare skin resting against the sheet — and a better connection.
In winter
You can stay cosy and still stay well connected. A few of the questions we’re asked most often:
Can I use flannelette sheets?
You can. Just know that a thick sheet can slow the connection a little, so the effect may take a bit longer to come through. Keep your sheet mostly cotton or bamboo rather than polyester, and try not to pile on extra layers of clothing on top.
A nice middle ground: use a thin cotton sheet directly over your Sleep Mat or Mattress Cover, then flannelette as your top sheet and on pillowcases for that warm, snug feeling. You can always check the connection with our Product Tester.
Can I wear pyjamas?
Of course. If you like plenty of layers, the simplest option is to rest directly on the Sleep Mat or Mattress Cover so there’s just one layer between you and the mat. A good approach is warm on top, minimal on the bottom — a cosy top for your arms, and less on your lower half so your skin still makes good contact. A warmer duvet lets you wear less to bed while staying toasty.
Can I use an electric blanket?
Yes — place the electric blanket under your Sleep Mat or Mattress Cover. We’d suggest using it just to warm the bed, then switching it off before you settle in. Sleeping with it on all night can leave you a little dehydrated and heavy in the morning.
What if my hot water bottle leaks?
No drama. Simply wipe the mat with a towel and let it air dry before putting your fresh sheets back on.
Can I wear socks?
You can. Feet naturally warm and moisten a sock, which helps carry the connection through to your skin. Choose natural fibres like cotton or bamboo, and a thinner sock — thicker socks work too, they just slow things down a little.
